Intro
Welcome to the crowdfunding campaign for Yatagarasu Attack on Cataclysm, an original 2D fighting game by an Japanese indie game development team comprised of three former SNK / King of Fighters staff. The purpose of the campaign is to power up and complete the game that has our labor of love for the last six years: Yatagarasu.

With your support, we will add new characters, new features, and fully localize the game to into a new version that we will bring to gamers all over the world: Yatagarasu Attack on Cataclysm!

What is Yatagarasu?
Yatagarasu is an original 2D fighting game for PC (Windows) which features 8 playable characters, high quality old school graphics, and gameplay that is easily accessible to anyone. You can see the trailer for the latest version of Yatagarasu in our IndieGogo Gallery.

We’ve worked hard to make Yatagarasu a fighting game that everyone can enjoy by creating a simple structure and straightforward gameplay without the clutter of lots of unnecessary features. Our game also features a completely unique commentary system which provides dynamic commentary in real time based on developments in the match.

Yatagarasu Attack on Cataclysm will bea brand new version of Yatagarasu with all-new new characters and many new features, and which will be fully localized into English for gamers around the world.

Our campaign is for flexible funding, which means that we will still receive most of the contributions provided, even if we are unable to reach our funding goal. In this case, we will proceed with work on Yatagarasu Attack on Cataclysm and use the contributions we have received to fund as much as possible of the new features and improvements. We will make up for the shortfall in funding wherever possible by putting more time into development, but progress on teh game will be much slower.

Yatagarasu Goes Global!
The PC version of Yatagarasu Attack on Cataclysm will be fully localized into English and contain both English and Japanese language options. As a stretch goal, we are planning to add French, Italian, German and Spanish localizations.

Yatagarasu Goes ARCADE! (Japan only)
We will develop a NESiCAxLive version to be appear in video game arcades around Japan. NESiCAxLive producer Fujimoto Takafumi was kind enough to give us this comment:

"Yatagarasu Finally Hits the Arcades! Yatagarasu is an accessible, but deep game which keeps evolving with each new version. We here at Taito are looking forward to bringing Yatagarasu to nationwide arcade centers via NESiCAxLive!"

I donated $40 as well. I hope that this leads to people playing this game. Also, it's neat that this game is making it to Nesica. Props to the developers.

It's interesting to see Nyu Media moving into supporting Japanese indies in development. I guess that their last IGG was pretty successful for them.

Oh, and fair warning: this is a flexible funding campaign, which means that your money will get sent to the devs, regardless of the final total.

Next paycheck, I'll give them 60.

I'm really hoping that since they were able to get on NESiCA, that console ports on PSN and etc. won't be too far behind.

Wasn't Nicalis supposed to make an english version of this game ?
3DS and PC as far as I recall.
Yes, but since it has taken them over a year to port it to the 3DS now we're gonna be getting an outdated version of the game. Fuck those people.

I don't know if this will hit the goal. 1/10 of the amount from Skullgirl kickstarter DLC would fund this.

1/10.

And that's why they hope it can be achieved. Fighting games live and breath in Japan, yet all that got funded so far were western projects. How many true japanese crowdfunding campaigns have been around recently? I keep wondering this now and then... I recall the Class of Heroes KS (another japanese game) also had its fair share of troubles but, hopefully, Yatagarasu will make it. It's a god damn solid fighter.

I've already given money to Skullgirls and Beast's Fury, so I'll throw in $40 some time next week. BTW will the PC release be through Steam or...? (I know it's already on PC and not via Steam but still!)

Look for me on the local news, I'll be the guy arrested for trying to burn down a Nintendo exec's house.
Is there a stretch goal to make a widescreen version for the year 2013?

Well Class of Heroes wasn't funding the game, it was funding some fancy packaging for a physical release of the game.

Came here hoping to find a "PlayStation Warrior" backing tier, and a PS4 version as in H-Hour KS.

/sad

Seeing as fighters are one of the genre notably absent from Ps4 launch lineup, it would be a good chance for devs.

Wait, so who's handling this?
Is it the original developers?
Yes, it's the original devs. Nyu Media are acting as publisher and running the fundraiser.

Is there a stretch goal to make a widescreen version for the year 2013?
Don't count on it. Changing the playfield to be widescreen would have a big impact on the spacing and flow of the match. And if they cropped it, the low-res sprites would be even more heavily scaled and filtered.

Dang, it's kind of a shame the developers aren't receiving any payment unless they break all the stretch goals.

I have no idea how you came to that conclusion seeing as how it's a flexible funding campaign.

Also is it just me or do none of the reward tiers actually include the game itself? They mention the game will retail for $15 but then there's a $10 tier that promises early retail access... meaning all it does is let you buy the game early?

The $10 reward says "Early delivery of the PC version of Yatagarasu Attack on Cataclysm (digital)" not access so I think you will just get the game before the retail release.

It says early delivery of the title... That means the game is delivered to you, not just early access.

Are there any characters with moves that bounce off walls (Vega walldive, Petra bullets, etc)? You could just change the camera panning if not.

I think it's pretty cool that i now know the history behind Yatagarasu thanks to yugioh. Anyways.... i saw this on destructoid earlier, coming from KoF the static backgrounds are a turn off but it looks decent so far.

Nobody here lives in arizona, right? Guess I'll learn some lag tactics as I train for this game. Gonna need to start bringing a laptop and having this setup next to the Melty Blood people.

Who is Nyu Media?

And I guess RyoRca isn't helping out with this any more?

Great to see the game continue to grow and improve :) I'll throw out the obvious questions: Any chance of the game seeing console releases / getting keys for console release later down the road in this campaign? There seems to be a lot of that going around lately.

These are sprites, not malleable pixels. It's going to look and play like ass if you start stretching it.

Unless theres characters with Vega/Wolverine/Strider sidescreen wall hanging, I'd take the same "invisible walled" background extension of the MvsC2 console port.

I really disliked that look in the MvC2 360/PS3 port, and I didn't like it when MK9 did something similar for the corner of the stage. The edge of the stage is an artificial line, sure, but it still looks really dumb when you're "pushing up against" thin air rather than the monitor's edge.

animation so smooth and creamy, If aksys fighters were this rich, I'd actually dig them..the character design is kinda tame though..I'll keep my eye on it still

Nene's general look reminds me of Solis from Groove On Fight... The proposed characters all sound interesting. Hopefully, they'll describe their playstyles more before character voting starts.

That's what the page says, if I'm interpreting it right.
It says that they're currently not making money, but anything in excess (they said access) of $311,000 goes towards the development team and marketing.
